There are a lot of good people in this business. My Father, RIP, was amazing!  I would sit with him, and we would count smoke detectors, pull stations and horn-strobes on huge paper plans when I was in grade school. He was NICET Fire Alarm Certified and prepared me to get my certification in fire alarm engineering. I still take required continuing education classes for our business license in the same room with other alarm company techs that are truly excellent.
